A Miracle Starts With the Beat of a Heart

We had our 16 week doctor's appointment last Thursday, and we heard our baby's heartbeat for the second time. But I cannot say it was any less amazing than the first! It blows me away that there is a little tiny heartbeat inside of a little tiny person in my belly. I have always cognitively known and been aware of the process of God creating a new human being as an infant inside a mother....but never before has it been so real and so awe-inspiring to me as now. The more I ponder the wonder of what is going on inside of me, the more speechless and humbled I am before my Lord and Creator. How precious and fragile and mysterious life is. And how majestic and glorious and amazing our God is! Praise be to Him, the giver of breath and life!

The baby's heart rate the first time we listened was somewhere around 144-146. This time when we listened it was 148. I have heard that a lower heart rate (in the 140's) may mean girl, while a higher heart rate (in the 160's) may mean boy? As of now it's still all speculation. Our next appointment in 3 weeks (it will be the day before Thanksgiving--Nov 25th) will be our first ultrasound! We will hopefully find out the baby's gender at that time. Kory says we have to "coach" it into position before then so the baby will give us a clear view in the ultrasound. :)

What do you all think...boy or girl? We don't really have a prize if you guess correctly....except, of course, the personal gratification and satisfaction of knowing you had the right answer!

Also, to answer a question posted earlier....Baby Kaye is due in early April. April 7th is our tentative due date at this point. It'll be here before we know it, I'm sure!

Finally, we have a HUGE praise--the Lord brought us a free crib!! My Aunt Bonnie has a friend who has a crib their kids have outgrown, and she wondered if we would be interested. Would we?! Their family "happened" to be driving out here to visit my uncle's father last weekend anyway, so they brought it along with them. It is now set up in our office-turned-nursery, thanks to my incredibly amazing husband. The Lord is so kind! We continue to be amazed by His provision in our lives.

Ten Million Fireflies

We are excited to join the realm of blogging for the first time ever as the Kaye family (Kory, Brittany, and "Baby Kaye" in the oven). Kory suggested the idea of a family blog, and I immediately loved the idea. Hopefully with both Kory and myself posting we will be able to keep you all better updated on the goings on of our lives, what the Lord is teaching us, and the latest on Baby Kaye!

As for the title of our blog, "Resplendent Glimpses," we hope to give you glimpses into our lives as a family, and while doing so relay to you the "resplendent (brilliantly radiant, magnificent) glimpses" the Lord daily gives us of Himself, His grace, and His glory. We greatly long for the day that we will no longer be limited to mere glimpses, but we will finally see Him in all of His fullness, majesty, and glory!

The title of this particular post, "Ten Million Fireflies," is inspired by the lyrics of one of our new favorite songs right now, "Fireflies" by Owl City. The "group" is actually composed of only one individual, Adam Young, who is topping the charts on secular radio, but he is actually an apparent solid believer (which we found as a double bonus!). Anyway, this phrase was in the running for our actual blog title since we thought the song lyrics "ten thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs" was an appropriate depiction of how we feel regarding the support we constantly feel from you, our dear friends and family.

We nixed the idea due to slight cheesiness, but we still wanted to let you all know how much you mean to us. This blog is for you, our loved ones...our blessed "fireflies." We pray our posts will bless and encourage you, as well as keep us connected over the distance and time that separate us.
